Danae Pappa’s Favourite Spots

Where does she usually go on a first date, and where does she find the best soft-serve ice cream in the city?

Every month, a different Athenian personality reminds us of the places where the city is at its best. This time, actress Danae Pappa maps out the very best of her own favourite Athens.

My go-to spot for a first date:

A favourite film at the cinema or a theatre performance. We may not get much of a chance to talk during the film or the show, but I think you can understand each other much better by the way you react to what you are watching. I have never actually done it, but this is my chance to describe my ideal date. Somewhere I do genuinely go, though, is Aperio for Italian food and wine. It is quiet and offers a bit of privacy.

My go-to spot when I need something sweet:

Crepe Diem in Chalandri for its soft-serve ice cream, which I obviously load up with every colourful extra topping I can find.

My go-to spot for partying until morning:

I am not sure about making it all the way to morning these days, it has been a while since I managed that, but with the cocktails and music at Birdman, the party starts early.

My go-to spot when I am feeling low:

I can lose myself for hours in the magical world of vinyl at Homcore on Voulis Street, talking about nothing but music and listening to the records I pick out on the spot.

My go-to spot for a cheat day:

Whether it is actually a cheat day or simply a day when I want the best flavours, Papadakis in Kolonaki is my choice for pretty much everything, while By The Glass in Stoa Ralli is where I go for the wine and the allure.

My go-to spot for coffee:

Jerry’s in Papagou, where they really mean it when they say speciality coffee.

My go-to spot when I am in the mood to flirt:

Anywhere can be the right place for flirting, as long as there is respect and a sense of humour. Though somewhere that feels like a setting from a Richard Curtis film would also do nicely. I have obviously watched his rom-coms far too many times.
